Why are most road lights in warm colors?

2024-10-21
Firstly, the light emitted by warm toned streetlights is not as strong or glaring.
Especially for drivers driving at night, if warm colored streetlights are used instead of cool colored ones, various traffic signs on the road cannot be clearly reflected to the driver's eyes by the illumination of the headlights.
Strong penetration but not dazzling
In fact, warm colored street lights use high-pressure sodium lamps. The reason why they are chosen as street lights in many places is because high-pressure sodium lamps have particularly strong penetration. Whether it is foggy, cloudy or hazy days, the visibility is much higher than other cool toned lights. And the warm toned light is not so dazzling. If cold toned street lights are used, it is very easy for remote drivers to experience visual fatigue, decreased attention, and possible glare, which poses a certain safety hazard to the driver.
Finally, another important reason is that warm toned streetlights are more energy-efficient than cool toned streetlights. If an ordinary street lamp requires a daily power consumption of 400 watts, and a street lamp is installed every 50 meters or so, the daily power consumption of the street lamp is very high.
The long-term accumulation of only streetlights is a significant expense. So, street lamp design should also start from the perspective of conservation, and designing suitable street lamps is the top priority.
